K.R. Nagar Police book nine persons in dowry death case

K.R. Nagar: Following a Court order, the K.R. Nagar Police have registered case against nine persons on charges of abetting the death of a married woman, who allegedly died due to dowry harassment.

Bindushri (25), daughter of B.K. Swamy of K.R. Sagar, had married Manjunath of Doddekoppalu village in K.R. Nagar taluk on May 5, 2019, when Manjunath was given a dowry of Rs. 5 lakh in cash and 150 gm. of gold jewellery as dowry. But a few months later, Manjunath and his family members started harassing Bindushri for bringing more dowry. Deeply depressed Bindushri committed suicide by hanging self at her husband’s house at Doddekoppalu on Mar. 12, 2022. Later, Bindushri’s father Swamy filed a private complaint at the Court, which after hearing the case, directed the K.R. Nagar Police to register case against all those responsible for her the death.

Following the Court direction, the K.R. Nagar Police on July 21, registered a case against nine persons, including the deceased Bindushri’s husband 29-year-old Manjunath, her father-in-law D.P. Parthegowda, mother-in-law Bhagya, sisters-in-law Shobha, Uma and Deepika and brothers-in-law Basavaraju, who is a CAR (City Armed Reserve) ACP at Mysuru, Kalappa and Swamygowda, and are investigating.
