‘Kala Shastrothunga’ award conferred on Dr. R. Satyanarayana

Renowned musicologist Dr. R. Satyanarayana being conferred ‘Kala Shastrothunga’ award at a programme organised at Jaganmohan Palace in city yesterday. Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, Indira Gandhi National Cultural Centre, Varanasi Director Dr. Vijay Shankar Shukla, musician Dr. R.S. Nandakumar, danseuse Dr. Vasundara Doraswamy and Kala Sandesha Prathishtana Founder K. Sandesh Bhargav.

Mysuru: Kala Sandesha Prathishtana had organised a music programme ‘Kalabhivardana-2019’ at Jaganmohan Palace here yesterday. ‘Kala Shastrothunga’ award was conferred on renowned musicologist Dr. R. Satyanarayana.

Inaugurating the programme, Indira Gandhi National Cultural Centre, Varanasi Director Dr. Vijay Shankar Shukla, recalling that he was a protege of Dr. Satyanarayana for the last 21 years, praised the latter as the only person in the country to decipher the principles of Bharatanatyam conceptualised by Bharata, Dhattila and Pandarika. He wished Dr. Satyanarayana to be a mentor for many musicologists in the country for many more years.

Gracing the occasion, Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji hailed the Prathishtana for their endeavour in music sector. He opined that Dr. Satyanarayana though a genius in is field was very humble and simple with the achievements outnumbering the awards. He said that art and literature was essential in life adding that music was a good stress-buster.

Danseuse Dr. Vasundara Doraswamy presented Bharatanatyam on the occasion.

Dr. R.S. Nandakumar rendered Karnatak music.

Prathishtana Founder K. Sandesh Bhargav, Music and Dance exponent H.K. Narasimhamurthy, A.P. Srinivas, Dr. Sheela Sridhar, Ramamurthy Rao, Dr. Kripa Phade, Dr. Radhika Nandakumar, K.P. Upadyaya, J.S. Ramanujam, Rohini Subbaratnam, R.K. Padmanabha, Rajalakshmi Sridhar and others were present.
