Mysuru: Thanks to the effort of members of Yuva Brigade, Swachanda Mysore and other volunteers, the Kalyani near Devikere atop Chamundi Hill is all set to sport a new and clean look to attract tourists.
About 50 members of Yuva Brigade, supported by volunteers embarked upon the elephantine task of cleaning the Kalyani this morning.
The shrubs on the so called boundary wall and on the steps leading down to the Kalyani were removed and cleaned.

About five-feet deep blackish dirty stagnated water lying in the pond was pumped out using a diesel pump. The huge silt accumulated at the base was also removed which also had two carcasses of monkeys.
The ground water entry point in the pond was cleared of weeds and obstructions.
The joy of the volunteers knew no bounds when fresh water trying to seep through the crevices was noticed thus paying rich dividends for the arduous toil.
The volunteers realigned the stones on the boundary wall. The dilapidated railings of the barricade of the Kalyani will also be repaired. The boundary wall will be painted.
Once upon a time, the water from the Kalyani was said to have been used in temples atop the Hill and constant neglect perhaps had driven the pond to a very bad state.
Yuva Brigade District Convenor S. Chandrashekar, Members Basavaraj, Lingaraj, Mahendra, Swachanda Mysore’s Prashant, Ganesh and others took part in the cleaning task.
