Bengaluru: A day after the Lok Sabha Polls concluded in the State, the Karnataka High Court today granted conditional bail to suspended Kampli Congress MLA J.N. Ganesh, who has been accused of assaulting fellow MLA Anand Singh (Vijayanagar-Hospet) at Eagleton Resort near Bidadi in Ramanagaram district in January this year.
A Single-Judge Bench of the High Court, which heard the bail plea of the accused MLA this morning, granted bail, while setting out several conditions.
J.N. Ganesh, who was elected on a Congress ticket from Kampli constituency in Ballari district in last year’s Assembly polls, was accused of assaulting fellow Congress MLA Anand Singh at the resort on Jan.18, where Congress MLAs were camping to ward off the BJP’s efforts to poach them.
Anand Singh, who sustained injuries in the assault, was admitted to a Bengaluru Hospital, from where he lodged complaint accusing Ganesh of assaulting him.
The Congress suspended Ganesh from the party after the incident. Soon as the Bidadi Police registered on FIR against him, Ganesh went absconding for over a month. However, the MLA was traced and arrested in Gujarat by the Police on Feb.21 and remanded in judicial custody.
Ganesh was in Parappana Agrahara jail since then and his previous bail pleas were rejected by the Court.
