Mysuru: District in-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa will inaugurate the 83rd Akhila Bharata Sahitya Sammelana Reception Committee office at the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat office located at the North Gate of the Palace at 9.30 am tomorrow. Also, logo of the Sammelana will be launched on the occasion.  Announcing this at a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna said that veteran writer Dr. C.P. Krishna Kumar will preside. Minister Tanveer Sait will be the chief guest.

Pointing out that the Sammelana will take place from Nov. 24 to 26 at Maharaja College Grounds, he said that there were plans to utilise Maharaja College Centenary Hall and Kalamandira too for the Sammelana.

Stating that the Sammelana will be organised in such a manner that there is no scope for any confusion, he said that about 1.5 lakh people from across the State are expected to take part in this three-day mega event.

Bannur Raju addressing a meeting of Mysuru Kannada Vedike at the Park near Gun House yesterday.

Vedike holds meeting: Even as Dr. Y.D. Rajanna was addressing the press meet, members of Mysuru Kannada Vedike held a meeting at the Park near Gun House yesterday, opposing the urgency in which the Sammelana is being held. Addressing the meeting, Historian Prof. P.V. Nanjaraja Urs said that they were not against the Sammelana but were only opposing the hurried manner in which the Sammelana is being organised.

Questioning the propensity  of holding the Sammelana in haste, Prof. Urs said that the Vedike was severely opposed to possible commission business and misuse of money meant for the event.

Demanding a probe into the alleged irregularities in District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Prof. Urs said that the organisation of the 3-day Sammelana amidst allegations of financial misappropriation, had given rise to suspicions. Although several representatives were made to the district authorities for ordering a probe into the alleged irregularities in the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, he observed that the holding of the event ahead of the world Kannada Meet in December was not appropriate. As such the District Minister should thoroughly look into the whole issue and come up with appropriate decision on holding the event, Prof. Urs said.

Writers D.V. Munivenkatappa, Joganahalli Gurumurthy, Bannur Raju, D.N. Krishnamurthy and others took part in the meeting.
