Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa inaugurates three-day Theatre Festival ‘Kadamba Rangotsava’
Mysore/Mysuru: “Kannada theatre itself is a wonder. It is on par with what we can find in world theatre. Recently held Bahuroopi Theatre Festival is an example for that,” opined Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa. He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Kadamba Rangotsava,’ a three-day Theatre Festival, organised by the city’s renowned theatre group ‘Kadamba Rangavedike’ in association with the Directorate of Kannada and Culture, Bengaluru, at Kirurangamandira in Rangayana premises yesterday.
“Bahuroopi received overwhelming response from theatre buffs. Several great theatre personalities have worked hard in the past as a result of which Mysuru theatre tradition has reached this height today,” he said.
Pointing out that Kodagu’s most acclaimed poet Appacha Kavi was inspired by Mohammad Peer, a professional theatre artiste from Mysuru in those times, Cariappa recounted his association with the theatre for over three decades.
“Theatre has ability to inspire and change the society. As we have seen, theatre has put a revolution on the stage and changed the Governments. Plays like ‘Malegalalli Madumagalu’ and ‘Mukhyamantri’ have created all-time records in Kannada theatre,” he said.
Kadamba Rangavedike President Rajashekar Kadamba, Theatre artiste Venkatesh Mariyammanahalli, Subba Narasimha and others were present.
Later, ‘Anna Vali,’ a social and mythological play based on the story of Vali and Sugriva of epic Ramayana, was staged by Udupi-based theatre troupe ‘Snehajeevi.’
