Mysuru: Senior littérateur Dr. C.P. Krishna Kumar (CPK) released ‘Zen Anubhava,’ a Kannada translation of Thomas Hoover’s ‘The Zen experience’ by writer G. Vijaynag, at a function held at Maneyangala in Kalamandira premises here on Saturday.
The programme was organised jointly by Karnataka Vichara Vedike and Bengaluru-based Srishti Publications.
Dr. CPK said that translating books from one language to another language is not an easy task. It requires a lot of experience and expertise, he added.
Stating that he too had translated some of the books, Dr. CPK said that some people have misconceptions that translation is an easy job.
Translators must be respected in society on the lines of other literary figures as translation is also a challenging profession, he added. He said that translation is an art. Hold on language, knowledge of the surroundings is must for the translators to come out best in their chosen profession.
Lauding the efforts of writer G. Vijayanag for acquiring the skill of translation, he said that Vijayanag had also translated works of eminent Scientist Einstein into Kannada before this book.
The reading on translated works not only broadens the knowledge of the readers but also help them to study the culture of other countries.
Senior Littérateur Dr. Malali Vasanthakumar, Kannada Sahitya Parishath Mysuru President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, Hardwicke Government First Grade College Principal Hirimarali Dharmaraju, Publisher Srishti Nagaraj, Dr. C.M. Vinayak and others were present during the function.
