Nanjangud: Nanjangud Tahsildar Mohana Kumari has appealed people not to throw puja articles and other offerings to rivers as doing so will pollute water and does not bring any good to us.
She was speaking after launching the two-day ‘Nagarasabhe Nade Kapila Nadi Swachhate Kade,’ a Kapila river bed cleansing initiative jointly undertaken by Nanjangud City Municipal Council (CMC) and Taluk Administration at the bathing ghat of the river at Nanjangud town on Friday.
Pointing out that Kapila River is getting increasingly polluted due to indiscreet throwing of clothes, puja articles and other offerings to the river by devotees visiting the town’s Srikanteshwaraswamy Temple, Mohana Kumari said that pollution poses a great threat to aquatic animals and other living beings.

Noting that cleaning machines are not being used as the water level of the river is quite high, he said that CMC will make honest efforts to keep Kapila River always clean.
