Kindness & humility vital in medical profession

152 receive degrees at MMC&RI Convocation Ceremony ‘Summer Dreams’

“Kindness and humility are vital components in Medical profession while treating patients,” opined Dr. C.N. Manjunath, Director, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences & Research, Bengaluru.

He was delivering the address at the Convocation Ceremony ‘Summer Dreams’ of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) held under the aegis of MMC&RI and Mysore Medical College Alumni Association (MAA) this morning at J.K. Grounds here.

Dr. Manjunath pointed out that despite quantum leap in science and technology associated with  medical field, a patient hearing of the problems of a patient followed by systematic diagnose could alone ensure proper medical treatment. In a nut-shell, he suggested a simple mantra — Talk, Touch and Treat, while treating patients which simply boils down to good communication, proper systematic examination / investigation followed by routine treatment.

Continuing, Dr. Manjunath suggested the graduating doctors to update their knowledge on regular basis and discuss with seniors to elicit more information. He opined that doctors were ready to work in rural areas provided the infrastructure was good and protection was provided to doctors who sometimes have to bear the brunt of fury of family of a patient for no fault of theirs. He added that the existing hospitals should be developed and upgraded instead of simply opening new hospitals.

In all, 152 students of 2011 batch received the degrees. The toppers were S. Abhishek (Anatomy), Madhu Kikkeri (Physiology), Sowmya S. Aithal (Microbiology and Forensic Medicine), Girija (Ophthalmology), Arpitha (Prevention and Social Medicine), H.R. Bharath (Medicine), Y.R.
