Mysuru: District Administration, in association with various organisations, has organised a function on Oct. 23 at Kalamandira here to mark Kittur Rani Chennamma Jayanti.
Presiding over a preliminary meeting in that context at DC’s office here on Friday, ADC T. Yogesh said that the function would be a fitting tribute for Kittur Rani Chennamma, who was an epitome of valour and courage to take on the British forces.
Speaking on the occasion, Kannada and Culture Assistant Director Chennappa said that the Jayanti was being organised for the first time going by the instruction of the State Government. He added that names of five persons have been short-listed for the main speaker and one would be selected finally.
Representatives of Veera Vanithe Rani Chennamma Swayam Seva Sangha announced at the meeting that scholarships would be distributed to a few students who had scored highest marks in the SSLC examination.
Theatre Artiste B.M. Ramachandra, Karunadu Navodaya Sene President Ravi Shankar, Mysore University Syndicate Member Kumar and others attended the meeting.
