Members of Kodagu District Coffee Growers Federation led by Kodagu District JD(S) President Meriyanda Sanketh Poovaiah met former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda at the latter’s residence in Bengaluru and apprised him of the problems being faced by coffee growers over a long period.
Giving a patient hearing to the grievances of the coffee growers, Deve Gowda said that he was aware of the problems and assured to draw the attention of the Union Government in the Parliament. He added that he would also discuss the matter with Minister for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman. Deve Gowda further said that the environment friendly coffee crop was helping river Cauvery.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to Deve Gowda seeking a special package to revive the coffee plantations by waiving the bank loans of the growers.
Federation President Ajjamada Shankaru Nachappa, Secretary Annira Madappa, Treasurer Manira Vijay Nanjappa and others were in the delegation.
