Konkani Manyata Divas celebrated

Mysore/Mysuru: Konkani Christian Association (KCA), Mysuru, celebrated ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ recently at Konkan Bhavan in Vijayanagar 2nd Stage here in commemoration of inclusion of Konkani Language in Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution on Aug. 20, 1992.

The programme began with three priests concelebrating the Konkani Mass which was followed by a public function.

Walter Nandalike, Managing Director of Daijiworld, Mangaluru, who was the chief guest, stressed the need to uphold Konkani language & called upon the youths to spread it further.

Monetary medical support was given to sick patients and the less privileged; educational support was provided to economically challenged students and a motorised tricycle donated to a paraplegia person.

On the occasion, the KCA honoured eight dignitaries who have rendered self-less service over the years for the unity of Konkani people and the enrichment of Konkani culture — Dr. Richard Picardo, John Joseph Pinto, Vincent Noel Crasto, Gracian Rodrigues, Pius Saldanha, Nelson Lobo, Nelson Coelho and Edwin Pinto.

Konkani youths entertained the audience with cultural programmes. John D’Souza, President of KCA, welcomed. Joyce Sequeira, General Secretary, read the report. Anil Saldanha, Treasurer, distributed cheques to students, poor and the needy. Stany Lobo, Vice-President, proposed a vote of thanks. Meena Dias, Vice-President, compered.

Konkani residents of Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Mandya districts attended the celebrations.
