The future of Karnataka Premier League (KPL) seems to be bleak as the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has decided not to conduct the premier cricket tournament until the investigation into the match fixing scandal was completed by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru City Police.
In a communique sent to the mediapersons, KSCA Hon. Treasurer and Official Spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya said “We wish to state that the next edition of the KPL will be conducted only after the completion of the ongoing investigation. We continue to co-operate with Police in all respects till the completion of the probe.”
The CCB has so far arrested seven individuals in connection with the match-fixing scandal and has also issued a Look Out Circular for Arvind Venkatesh Reddy, owner of the Bellary Tuskers.
Following a complaint by cricketer Bhavesh Gulecha, the CCB arrested Belagavi Panthers owner Ali Asfaq Thara, the first to be arrested.
Later, celebrity drummer Bhavesh Bafna, Haryana-based bookie Sanyam, cricketers Nishanth Singh Shekawat, Vishwanathan and coach Vinu Prasad were arrested. The latest to be arrested were former India ‘A’ player C.M. Gautham and first class cricketer Abrar Kazi in connection with the case.
