Krishna Jayanti Music Festival at Ganabharathi

Ganabharathi has organised a three-day Music Festival to mark the occasion of Krishna Jayanti from Aug.30 to Sept.1.

On Aug.30, Vid. V. Vamshidhar will present a flute concert at 6 pm. He will be accompanied on violin by Vid. B.K. Raghu, Vid. B.S. Prashanth on mridanga and Vid. S. Manjunath on ghata.

Profile

V. Vamshidhar is an A-Graded artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan.He had his initial training in Karnatak Music from his grandfather, flautist Vid. V. Deshikachar and presently he is being trained by his uncle Vid. D. Balakirshna. 

He is recipient of many awards like the ‘Best Junior Instrumentalist – Flute’ award by the Madras Music Academy, ‘Ananya Yuva Puraskara’ from Ananya, ‘Nadajyothi Kala Prathibha’ Award from Sri Tyagaraja Swamy Bhajana Sabha, Bengaluru. He has performed in various Sabhas like Bidaram Krishnappa Ramamandira, Mysuru, The Music Academy, Chennai, Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, Mysuru.

On Aug.31, Vidu. G. Chandanabala is presenting a vocal concert at 6 pm. She will be accompanied on violin by Vid. K.J. Dilip, on mridanga by Vid. A. Radhesh and on ghata by Vid. Vikram Bharadwaj.

Profile: Chandanabala had her initial training from her father, S. Nataraja Murthy, a renowned violinist, and later from A. Rajamma Keshavamurthy and Sangeetha Kalanidhi late R.K. Srikanthan. 

Currently she is learning under Vid. H.S. Sudhindra. She is an ‘A’  graded artiste of AIR and Doordarshan in Karnatak and devotional music.

Though a Karnatak classical vocalist, she has experimented with parallel genres such as light classical, folk, sufi, bhajans abhang, etc., exploring spiritual and devotional literature such as Dasa Sahitya, Vachana Sahitya, Sufi, Abhang Vani, etc., in various languages.

She has performed throughout India in various prestigious Sabhas like Chembur Fine Arts, Rama Lalitha Kala Mandir, Gayana Samaja, Shanmugananda Sabha, Nadaneerajanam Sabha.

She has many awards to her credit like Ananya Puraskara, Star of Vani, Ghantasala Academy Award for Young Artists, Ananya Pratibha Puraskar, Aryabhatta Youth Award.

On Sept.1 at 5.30 pm, Ganabharathi is felicitating senior artistes who have served arts in various ways. Senior vocalist Vidu. Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar, R. Paramashivan, a legendary theatre personality, senior musician and music teacher Vidu. Pushpa Srinivasan and Make-up artiste Ramachandra are being felicitated on this occasion.

Senior violinist Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy will be the chief guest and will honour the artistes. Prizes will be distributed to the winners of various competitions held during Krishna Jayanti.

At 6.30, Vid. Parshwanath Upadhye will give a Bharatanatyam recital.

Profile: Parshwanath Upadhye, a versatile Indian classical dancer, is a highly sought-after male dancer from India. His performances have defined a fine blend of Tandava, the masculine and Lasya, the feminine aspect of this classical art form.

Notably, he has been awarded the prestigious Bismilla Khan Yuva Puraskar by Sangeet Nataka Academy for the year 2017, Ram Gopal Best Male Dancer Award 2018, Adithya Birla Kala Kiran Puraskar 2018 and the Best Dancer of The Year 2018 at Madras Music Academy, Chennai. 

Parshwanath has had an extensive training under Guru Ravindra Sharma (disciple of late Guru Mysore Vishnudas) in the traditional Mysore style of Bharatanatyam. At present he is learning under Padma Shri Guru Prof. Sudharani Raghupati.

Parshwanath is a trained Karnatak vocalist and holds a Master of Arts degree in Kannada Literature from Karnataka University.
