Former External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna is likely to meet BJP National President Amit Shah in New Delhi today to finalise his intended entry into the saffron outfit. Krishna was supposed to join the BJP on Mar. 15, but due to the death of his sister, Krishna had put off plans of joining the party.
Krishna is expected to join BJP formally in the presence of Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi within a week. Sources in the BJP say that after Krishna makes his formal announcement, he will hold a meeting with his supporters in Mandya, who may follow him to the BJP.
The 84-year-old Krishna had announced his resignation from the Congress on Jan. 29, saying the party was in a “state of confusion” on whether it needs mass leaders or not. Krishna, who was Karnataka Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004, had returned to State politics after stepping down as the Minister for External Affairs in 2012. He had also served as the Governor of Maharashtra.
