Mysore/Mysuru: The Kannada Kriya Samithi (Action Committee) has urged the Mysuru District Administration and the State Government to ensure that at least 60 percent of all signages, printed materials, passes and badges used during the upcoming Dasara festival are in Kannada, in line with the State Language Policy.
The resolution was passed at a meeting held on Thursday at the Nrupathunga Kannada School auditorium in Ramakrishnanagar here.
Chaired by Kannada Kriya Samithi President M.G. Sadanandaiah, the meeting brought together language advocates, writers and Committee members to deliberate on measures to strengthen the presence of Kannada in public life.
Among the major decisions taken was a demand that Kannada be made the first language compulsorily from pre-primary to Class 12, without replacing it with any other language.
The Committee also called for the compulsory use of Kannada on traffic signs, barricades and all signages installed across the city by the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).
Other resolutions included ensuring Kannada numerals alongside English registration plates on Government vehicles, allowing Kannada numbering on public transport vehicles and restoring Kannada usage in Co-operative Societies and banks.
To promote Kannada among students, the Committee will organise ‘Speak in Kannada’ (Kannada Balasi Samvaada) sessions once every two months in schools and colleges. The initiative aims to encourage conversational use of Kannada in academic settings.
During the meeting, Aravind Sharma was appointed as Committee Coordinator. Prominent participants included General Secretary S.R. Sudarshan, senior writers Prof. K.S. Bhagawan and Horeyala Doreswamy and leaders G. Prakash, Dr. K. Kalachannegowda, Panditaradhya, H.N. Lokeshappa, V. Anand, M. Manjunath, Jayakumar, Bogadi Siddegowda and E. Dhananjaya Yeliyur, among others.
