Mysuru: Setting Feb.15 deadline for the UGC to grant re-recognition to Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), writer Prof. H.S. Ramachandregowda has threatened to take out a Delhi Chalo rally on Feb.20.
Announcing this at press meet here recently, Prof. Ramachandregowda said that the UGC had not acted on the Karnataka High Court order in December last asking it to grant recognition to KSOU.
The UGC’s apathy has left lakhs of students enrolled with KSOU in the lurch, he said.
Pointing out that KSOU was offering education to lakhs of students at an affordable cost, he alleged that the UGC, which has granted recognition to over a hundred Universities, is not showing interest in granting recognition to KSOU, which has a big question mark on the future of scores of students.
Maintaining that the Centre’s silence on the issue was not correct, he said that Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar must take responsibility for the uncertain future of KSOU students.
Prof. Ramachandregowda also warned of laying siege of the UGC office in Delhi on Feb.20.
