Mysuru: The aggrieved students of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) have threatened to lay siege to the ‘Parivartana Yatra,’ being organised by the BJP in Mysuru on Jan.25 if the UGC (University Grant Commission) does not grant recognition to the University.
The aggrieved students, led by A.S. Nandeesh, Muneer Pasha, Naveen and R. Veeregowda, were addressing a press conference at Pathrakartara Bhavan here yesterday.
They said that not only would they protest during the Parivartana Yatra in which BJP National President Amit Shah, Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ananth Kumar are participating but if the issue is not resolved by then, they would organise a huge protest when Prime Minister Narendra Modi participates in the Yatra on Feb.4 in Bengaluru.
According to the students, in spite of the BJP at the Centre and the Congress in the State being in power respectively, they failed to get recognition to the University. “The students continue to suffer because of the negligence of both the parties for no fault of theirs. We will launch a campaign against both these parties and ask people not to support either of the parties in the upcoming polls,” they said.
“If Prakash Javadekar and Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy wanted they could have resolved the issue long back. The very fact that they are giving lip service to the problems shows their attitude,” they charged.
They also threatened to protest against the Congress during its ‘Sadhana Samavesha.’
In June 2015, UGC discontinued recognition of all the courses offered by KSOU from the year 2012-13. Owing to de-recognition, no students have been getting jobs and lakhs of degree holders are in trouble as their certificates are not being considered, they said.
