Mysore/Mysuru: In what is perhaps the first such initiative in the State, city based KSOU (Karnataka State Open University) will sign an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with USA based New York University (NYU) to offer training in skill development.
Announcing this after inaugurating a meeting of Co-ordinators of KSOU Learners Support Centres at Cauvery Auditorium in Mukthagangothri campus here on Sept. 29, KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Vidyashankar said that KSOU will offer skill development courses to students under ‘Make in India’ initiative at a minimal cost of Rs.2,000. Maintaining that KSOU will build a Centre of Excellence in the University campus, he said that the University plans to organise skill development programmes across the State in the coming days.
Pointing out the admission process is going on in online mode, he said that there are plans to provide tabs to MBA students and underlined the role of Learners Support Centres in providing help to Degree students.
Referring to National Education Policy (NEP), he said that the NEP-2020 was very much supportive of overall academic growth of students and the University will start implementing it by January next year. Observing that Karnataka is among the first States to implement NEP, Prof. Vidyashankar reiterated that KSOU had started preparations in right earnest for implementation of NEP.
Registrar Prof. R. Rajanna, who presided, said that many who got degrees from KSOU had qualified in the Civil Services exam.
University Finance Officer Dr. Khader Pasha, Dean (Studies) Dr. Shanmuka, Dean (Academic) Dr. Ashok Kamble and others were present.
