Bengaluru: In a bid to augment revenues and to help the horticulture farmers take their produce faster to markets, the KSRTC will soon deploy its fleet of Air Conditioned (AC) buses for the purpose. The KSRTC, which is reeling under losses due to COVID-19 pandemic, is looking at newer avenues for revenue generation. Now it has planned to transport vegetables and fruits as part of its value added services.
KSRTC MD Shivayogi Kalasad said that old air conditioned buses will be used for transporting vegetables and fruits for one month on an experimental basis. This is being done to augment income which has hit rock-bottom due to COVID pandemic.
In the first phase, the KSRTC will deploy AC buses at Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Hospet, Bengaluru and other surrounding places.
Reiterating that only old AC buses will be used for the service, Kalasad said that the fruits and vegetables transported from various places will be offloaded at Bengaluru’s K.R. Market and Kalasipalya. Apart from helping the farmers, the service will fetch revenue to KSRTC, he added.
