KSRTC to fill all seats in buses

Mysore/Mysuru: With the Government announcing more relaxations under Unlock 4.0, the KSRTC has got the go ahead to fill all seats in its buses. The State-run Transport Corporation had sought the Government’s nod to relax norms on social distancing in the wake of mounting losses and operational costs.

Until now, the KSRTC was allowed to take 30 passengers in ordinary buses that had a seating capacity of 54 and in Rajahamsa buses with a seating capacity of around 40, only 20 passengers were allowed. Now the Government’s nod for filling all seats will help the KSRTC to bear operational costs.

Meanwhile, KSRTC Mysuru Rural Division authorities said that the new Government order is being followed from Tuesday. The buses will henceforth stop at all designated points in their route and will pick up passengers. But no standing passengers will be allowed. At present, the Division is operating 350 out of the 700 buses and will start operating all buses under its control once the number of commuters return to pre-COVID-19 level, sources further said.
