The popular Kulletira Cup Hockey Tournament featuring Kodava families will commence from April 15 at General Thimmaiah Stadium here with the final to be held on May 13, according to the Tournament Organising President K.P. Shambu Mandappa, Secretary K.K. Ajit Nanaiah and Convenor K.M. Aruna Beba.
Speaking at a press meet yesterday at Ainmane (Ancestral house) here, they said that the preparations were on for the Tournament and added that three grounds belonging to Napoklu High School would be utilised for the Tournament.
The main field would have a metallic gallery for the public to sit and watch the matches. A memorandum has been submitted to the State Government seeking a fund of Rs.50 lakh.
MP Pratap Simha has already released about Rs.20 lakh from the MP’s fund for the Tournament from which a Mini-Stadium will be constructed at Government Model Primary School Grounds. Another Rs.3 lakh has been released from Zilla Panchayat, thanks to the effort of ZP Member Muralidhar which would be used to construct a retaining wall near the Stadium. Totally 333 teams will take part in the Tourney and registration will commence from Mar.1 and the total cost estimation is Rs.1.5 crore, explained the organisers who sought the co-operation of the public for organising the Tournament.
