Kuvempu University’s syllabus to include Satish Javaregowda’s poem

Mysore/Mysuru: The poem ‘Belakigu Shokada Grahana’ (The Eclipse of Sorrow for Light) by author, teacher and organiser T. Satish Javaregowda has been selected for the third-semester Kannada language textbook, ‘Vijnana Sourabha’ (Fragrance of Science), for the B.Sc degree at Kuvempu University.

T. Satish Javaregowda, who serves as a teacher at the Government Senior Primary School in Mellahalli, is active in literary pursuits as well as various pro-Kannada activities. He is the President of Spandana Cultural Parishat and Hon. Secretary of the Adamya Rangashale.

This poem will be taught as a part of the syllabus for B.Sc third-semester students in degree colleges under Kuvempu University from the 2025-2028 academic year. It is a noteworthy achievement that a primary school teacher’s poem has been included in a University’s degree curriculum.

In today’s mechanised life, humanity has become self-centered and enslaved by materialistic pleasures. Moral values have been abandoned and the cries of burning pain are shocking. The rampage of evil people who ignite social harmony continues. This poem powerfully expresses these anxieties.

The poem also exposes critical issues such as the imbalance of nature, changes in seasons and the helpless lives of farmers. The poet has powerfully documented the way society, entangled in hardships, is being consumed by unending anxieties in the poem ‘Belakigu Shokada Grahana.’
