Mysore/Mysuru: A concerning trend emerged during the recent KPSC (Karnataka Public Service Commission) exam for recruitment of various Group C posts held in city.
It was observed that more than half of the candidates who had initially registered for the exam failed to appear, indicating a notable lack of interest among potential candidates for KPSC exams.
In one instance, a total of 5,332 candidates had registered for the exam, which was conducted at 11 centres across the city for the recruitment of 242 posts of Accounts Assistant and 47 posts of Inspector of Co-operative Societies.
However, only 2,221 candidates actually attended the exam, leaving a significant number of 3,111 candidates absent. This implies that nearly 60 percent of the registered candidates chose not to participate.
Similarly, in another written exam for the recruitment of Group C posts held on the same day at 14 centres throughout the city, the situation was quite similar. Out of 6,461 candidates who had registered for the exam, only 2,580 of them appeared, while 3,881 candidates were notably absent. Again, this resulted in a high rate of abstention, close to 60 percent.
This high rate of absenteeism is somewhat perplexing, particularly considering that there is a general inclination among the unemployed to seek Government jobs over private sector employment.
Possible reasons for this significant absence could be attributed to factors such as candidates being required to appear at centres located in other districts, as well as the coincidence of the KPSC exam dates with other competitive exams, such as banking exams, which may have led to scheduling conflicts and candidates prioritising other opportunities.
