Lalit Kala Akademi Awardees

Bengaluru: MMysuru-based artist and senior photographer S.M. Jambukeshwara, along with two other artists — Madhu Desai of Dharwad and Upadhyaya Moodubelle of Udupi — has been chosen for the coveted Lalit Kala Akademi Award – 2018 instituted by Karnataka State Lalit Kala Akademi.  

This was disclosed to press persons at Bengaluru recently by Chairperson of the Akademi Prof. M.J. Kamalakshi. The Award, comprising a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 each, a citation and a memento, will be conferred in Bengaluru on Oct.5.

Profile: Photographer, artist, journalist and writer S.M. Jambukeshwara passed out from Chamarajendra Technical Institute and also developed interest in photography. Even as he works in JSS Mahavidyapeetha, he has devoted his spare time for wildlife photography. He has won national and international recognition. Along with photography, his  other interest includes travelling. His latest book was ‘Americada Antaranga’. Editor of the Coffee Table book brought out by JSS Mahavidyapeetha in both Kannada and English, Jambukeshwara has also been conferred the 2010 Rajyotsava Award.

Madhu Desai, a freelance artist based in Dharwad, had his art education in Dharwad and Bengaluru. He has held exhibitions in India, Germany and France. Through his NGO ‘Kalamandala,’ he has been doing art activities to promote contemporary art.

Radhakrishna Upadhyaya Moodubelle, the renowned  Drawing Teacher of Government Composite High School, Volakadu, Udupi, was conferred the “Best Teacher National Award-2012” by the President of India on the occasion of Teachers Day in 2013.  With art as his hobby and painting as his passion, Upadhyaya has received numerous awards including the coveted Rashtraprashasti.
