Lalithakala Academy Award for city artist

Mysuru: Young  artist from city S. Virupaksha  (in pic) has bagged the Karnataka Lalithakala Academy Award for the year 2017-18. The Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, a citation and a certificate and it will be given away at a programme to be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bengaluru this evening.

A student of Sree Kalanikethana School of Art in Mysuru, Virupaksha has got the award for is water colour painting of a vertical memorial in Srirangapatna. The painting has been selected under “Suvarna Sambhrama Kala Puraskar.”

An exhibition of paintings including Virupaksha’s art work will be held at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat today. Virupaksha has participated in many painting workshops that have been held across the State. He hails from Nagavalli village in Chamarajanagar District and completed his studies in Mysuru. He works as art teacher at Morarji Desai Residential School.
