Sir,
It is heartening to note that the far cry of the citizens in respect of safe roads and footpaths have finally been heard! In a landmark judgement, the High Court of Karnataka declared that the right to have safe and good motorable roads and footpaths is a fundamental right of citizens under Article 21 of the Constitution of India (SOM dated Aug. 1)
It is important also to note that the victims can approach the High Court directly in order to claim compensation from the civic authorities for loss or damages incurred by them due to bad roads and footpaths.
It is hoped that at least now the civic authorities will rise to the occasion and maintain the roads, medians, pavements and footpaths in order to ensure safety and comforts of road-users and pedestrians. It is also necessary that the roads are free from free roaming cattle, as of late it is a dangerous menace in almost all the roads of our city.
