Mysore/Mysuru: Kalpa Kshetra has organised the launch of a documentary on Sangeetha Kalanidhi Mysore Vasudevacharya, produced by Kalpa Heritage Trust, at 10.30 am on April 9 at Kalpa Kshetra Auditorium, #581/1, Vijayanagar 4th Stage, 1st Phase, Mysuru.
Kamakshi Devi Wadiyar, daughter of Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, will preside over the function. Vidushi Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar, well-known musician belonging to the lineage of Vasudevacharya, will be the guest of honour.
Mysore Vasudevacharya was a highly accomplished musician and composer and was an Asthana Vidwan of the Mysore Palace and Guru to Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar.
Recognising his proficiency, Rukmini Devi Arundale invited him to Kalakshetra, Chennai, to compose music for dance-dramas produced there, especially based on Ramayana. His proficiency as a musician and Vaggeyakara earned him the title, Abhinava Thyagaraja.
The documentary is the latest in the series of documentaries produced by Kalpa Heritage Trust which includes ‘Samaveda Sangita’ and ‘Sangita Pitamaha Purandaradasa.’
