Mysuru: Every Indian must participate in Swachh Bharat programmes willingly to achieve the vision of ‘Clean India’ by 2019 on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, said Dr. N.N. Prahallada, former Associate Professor in Education, Regional Institute of Education.
He was delivering a special lecture on “Gandhi’s Concept of Swachh Bharat” at St. Joseph’s Central School. The lecture was jointly organised by Department of Gandhian Studies, University of Mysore and St. Joseph’s College of Education.
He said: “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” was the Gandhi’s mantra and he demonstrated, propagated and insisted on individual and community cleanliness throughout his life. Narendra Modi Government launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on Oct. 2, 2014, he said.
Former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University Prof. P. Venkataramaiah, who inaugurated the programme, called upon the student community to participate in a big way to make Swachh Bharat Abhiyan a grand success. Prof S. Shivarajappa, Director, Gandhian Studies, gave a clarion call to the students to contribute richly to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Principal St. Joseph’s College of Education Priya, faculty Asha and others were present during the programme.
