Mysuru: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) is always ready to create awareness about law but the people should follow the law, said B.P. Devamane, Senior Civil Judge & Member-Secretary, DLSA.
He was speaking after inaugurating a legal awareness programme for the Page Industries Garment company employees, organised jointly by Mysore Bar Association, Labour Department and the Police Department at the J.P. Nagar Industrial Area here on Thursday.
If the country’s standing in the world is very high it is because of the Indian Constitution. It gives us one of the biggest rights and that is the right to vote. When we elect the people’s representatives we should always think and cast our vote as an informed voter, he said.
Today in many places, the public and the labourers are transported in goods autos. This, according to the Supreme Court order, is illegal. Goods autos should be used only for transporting goods and not for public, he said.
Hence, to create awareness about the law regarding this becomes very essential. This is the reason why the DLSA holds programmes on legal awareness, he added.
Page Industries Garment company Deputy General Manager, Production, K. Baburaj, Senior Manager V.R. Prasad, advocate Marappa, Senior Labour Superintendent S. Shashidhar, K. Geetha, Veena, Nikhilchandra and others were present.
If women or those belonging to SC/ST are subjected to deceit or harassment, they can visit the office of the Legal Services Authority and file a complaint without paying any fees. Till now, 450 cases have been taken up by the Authority. The complete expenses are being borne by the Authority itself, says B.P. Devamane, Senior Civil Judge & Member-Secretary, DLSA
