New Delhi: The Election Commission has decided to hold a by-election to the Karnataka Legislative Council by Members of Legislative Assembly on Aug. 31.
The poll is being held to fill up a casual vacancy in the State Legislative Council of Karnataka occurred following the death of Vimala Gowda, a sitting member, on Apr. 17.
Vimala Gowda (63), BJP MLC, passed away in Bengaluru. The term of office of Vimala Gowda was till June 17 next year.
The notifications for the by-polls will be issued on Aug. 14, while the last date for filing nominations is Aug. 21. Scrutiny will be taken up on Aug. 22 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination will be Aug. 24.
The polling will be held between 9 am and 4 pm on Aug. 31 and the counting of votes will be taken up at 5 pm following which the results will be announced.
