Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. N.G. Malleshi, retired Sr. Scientist and Head, Department of Grain Sci and Tech, CFTRI, Mysuru, has been bestowed with the Poshak Anaj (Lifetime Achievement) Award by the ICAR-IIMR at the recently held “Nutri-Cereals Multi-Stakeholders Mega Convention” in Hyderabad in recognition of his contribution to Millets.
He has been continuously engaged in R & D activities on Millets (Sorghum (Jowar), Pearl millet (Bajra/Sajje), Finger millet (Ragi) and other small millets namely, Foxtail (Navane), Little (Same), Kodo (Varagu/Arka), Proso (Panivaragu/Baragu), Barnyard (Udalu) and Browntop (Korale) Millets.
Post-retirement, he is associated with the Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hyderabad, on processing and value addition to millets.
The UN has declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets and the Government of India is encouraging development of value-added convenience foods from Millets for regular consumption, by one and all, to minimise the incidences of non-communicable diseases.
