Mysore/Mysuru: As part of Teachers, Doctors and Engineers Day celebrations, over 15 Teachers, Doctors and Engineers were felicitated at a programme organised under the joint aegis of Lions Club of Mysore Millennium and Sanjana Balaga Pratishtana at Vishweshateertha Mantapa in Vijaya Vittala School premises at Saraswathipuram here on Sunday.
Those feted included retired Director of Health and Family Welfare Department Dr. G.M. Vamadev, JSS Dental College faculty Dr. K.P. Mahesh, Veterinarian Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, Engineers T.S. Ravindranath and A.S. Rajashekar, Ex-Servicemen Ugram Girish and Siddaiah Hiremath, City’s civic activists Mataiah and Nanjamma and about 15 teachers from various schools.
Immediate Past Multiple Council Chairman of Lions Club Dr. Nagaraj V. Bairy distributed scholarship totalling Rs.1 lakh to 81 students on the occasion. Those who received the scholarship included Monica, an MBBS student (Rs.10,000), J.S. Harsitha, who topped the State in SSLC exam, 17 students who secured full marks (125/125) in Kannada language in SSLC exam, 13 students who have single parent and 50 other deserving students.
Speaking on the occasion, Ln. Nagaraj Bairy said that the scholarship is given by Lions Club President N. Gangadharappa, who is also a retired teacher and an awardee, in memory of his grand daughter Sanjana. He pointed out that Gangadharappa has been honouring teachers, doctors, engineers, ex-servicemen and civic workers and also providing scholarship for talented students from economically weaker sections for the past 13 years, for which he has set aside one-third of his pension.
He further said that Gangadharappa is finding solace for his deceased grand daughter Sanjana by organising this programme for years. Lions Club Region-12 Chairman A.M. Naganna, Zone-1 Chairman K.Shivappa, Lions Quest District Chairman N. Ravikumar, Bengaluru Capital Lions Club President N. Chandrappa, Lions Club Seva Samiti President M.N. Suresh, Secretary A.C. Ravi, A.V. Nagaraj, S. Venkataramanappa, Suresh Babu and others were present.
