Bengaluru: Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar said that pre-primary classes – LKG (Lower Kindergarten) and UKG (Upper Kindergarten), will be started in Anganwadi centres.
Speaking to presspersons here yesterday, Lakshmi Hebbalkar said that LKG and UKG will be set up in 250 Anganwadi centres across the State on a pilot basis. The Government itself will provide bags, books, uniforms etc., to children, she added.
Continuing, the Minister said that upgradation of Anganwadi centres will be taken up and Montessori classes will be started in about 20,000 Government Schools across the State.
The Government will soon take a decision on introducing insurance scheme for Anganwadi workers, Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar added.
Asserting that there are no plans for retrenching Anganwadi workers, Hebbalkar said that Anganwadi centres, which are more than 30 years old, will be upgraded.
