Loaders to stage protest tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking fulfilment of their demands, the Karnataka State Loading and Unloading Workers (Hamaalis) Federation will strike work and stage a demonstration in front of Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Siddarthanagar tomorrow (July 10).

Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, Federation’s District President Karinayaka said that loaders have been doing loading and unloading of food grains at KFCSC and TAPCMS godowns across the District, under the Anna Bhagya Scheme and other ration schemes of the Government for years. But many loaders are not covered under ESI and PF despite years of service, he said.

Highlighting that loaders were facing a lot of difficulties, Karinayaka said that though wholesale and retail transportation tenders has been completed in cities, it has not been done at taluk level. The retail transportation contractors have cut loading and unloading charges by Rs.1.90 per quintal. Though a letter was written to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard on Sept.20 last year, no action has been taken as yet. As such, the loaders are forced to strike work, he said adding that the Federation will stage demonstration in front of the DC’s Office at 10.30 am.
