Bengaluru: Lobbying in the opposition BJP, which emerged as the single largest party in the just concluded Assembly polls, has begun with many aspirants vying with each other to get the party ticket for Legislative Council seats from the Legislative Assembly.
The BJP, which has 104 members in the Lower House (Legislative Assembly) can win five seats easily with its numerical strength.
The Council seats from the Legislative Assembly will become vacant following the retirement of current BJP members Raghunath Malkapure, B.J. Puttaswamy, Somanna Bevinamarad, M.B. Bhanuprakash and D.S. Veeraiah on June 17.
While all the retiring members are seeking another term for themselves, other party leaders too are lobbying hard to enter the upper house.
The key aspirants include Shivamogga District BJP President Rudregowda, Party Spokesperson and former MP Tejaswini Ramesh, Vishwakarma leader K.P. Nanjundi, former MLC Ashwath Narayan and the Party General Secretary Ravikumar.
A total of 11 Council seats will become vacant next month and the BJP has enough strength to win five of them in the polls in which only Legislative Assembly members can vote.
