New Delhi: The fourth phase of polling began this morning at 72 Constituencies across nine States amidst tight security. This phase will see the end of polling in Maharashtra and Odisha while the process will start in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. According to official Election Commission data, 28.47 percent have voted till 1 pm across 72 constituencies.
Some of India’s richest families, Bollywood stars and B-Town celebrities stepped out to cast their vote early this morning in Mumbai.
In West Bengal, where eight Constituencies are going to polls, unprecedented deployment of the Central forces has been made after the Opposition parties, Congress, CPI(M) and BJP, accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of intimidating their cadre.
Voting is taking place in 17 seats in Maharashtra, 13 each in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, eight in West Bengal, six each in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, five in Bihar, three in Jharkhand and a part of Anantnag Constituency in Jammu and Kashmir.
Three phases of voting have already taken place on Apr. 11, Apr. 18 and Apr. 23.
The elections will take place in three more phases till May 19 and results will be declared on May 23.
