Mysuru: After being closed for about four months, the busy M.G. Road was finally open for traffic this morning, bringing relief to vendors at the integrated market and also commuters travelling towards Chamundi Hill and Lalitha Mahal.
The M.G. Road, leading towards Mysore Race Club from Agrahara was closed for renovation of the overbridge on Nanjangud Road as the PWD is taking up the expansion of the highway from Gun House Circle to Madhuvana.
The works, taken up at a cost of Rs. 17 crore, are expected to completed soon.
The opening of the M.G. Road has surely brought smiles on the faces of vendors as they suffered huge losses over the past four months with customers unable to reach the market owing to closure of the road.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, Raghavendra, one of the vendors, said that he was happy that the road has opened to traffic and added that many vegetable vendors suffered losses as the business had come down as the road was closed.
For commuters travelling from Agrahara, they had to take a detour to reach the market. Now that the road is open for traffic, even they have heaved a sigh of relief.
