Mysore/Mysuru: With Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) turning 100 next year (2024), Mysore Medical College Alumni Association (MAA) is holding various educational and service activities since Dec. 1 in the district, which will go on till Sept. 2024.
One such programme is ‘Catch them young and make them strong,’ a health awareness programme for High Schools in Mysuru district.
The programme is focused on growth and development, personal and environmental hygiene including menstrual hygiene, healthy food habits, prevention of diseases, mental health including screen time and addictions, physical activities, first-aid, blood donation, road safety etc.
Interactive presentations are also being held which include power point slides, videos, demonstrations and role plays to have a longer impact.
Teams comprising faculty, alumni and students will visit schools and take feedbacks to improve the quality of future sessions, besides making follow-ups and take refresher activities whenever required or sought for.
Also, ‘Address Health,’ an organisation started by the alumni of the College are donating health education reference materials to schools. A report on adolescent health issues and challenges based on the observations will be shared with Health and Education Departments.
A School Health Summit has been planned next year where teachers from various schools in which BEOs, DDPIs, Paediatricians and other stakeholders will participate.
This programme will cover all High Schools in Mysuru district and will continue after the centenary celebrations as the Mysore Medical College Alumni Association considers it as a social responsibility to build a healthy and strong society.
