Maharaja’s College Hostel students stage protest, demand better facilities

Mysore/Mysuru: Alleging that their hostel was woefully lacking in facilities, the inmates of Maharaja’s College Hostel staged a snap stir in front of the hostel here yesterday.

Complaining that they were receiving poor quality of drinking water and food, besides lack of other facilities, they alleged that there was no hygiene in the campus and the hostel building was home to rodents and reptiles.

Claiming that the water tank was not cleaned for months which had resulted in water contamination, they also alleged that the toilets lacked maintenance, resulting in stinking smell. Pointing out that only 5 out of the 9 toilets were in working condition, they claimed that the number of toilets was very less when compared to the number of students (450 students).

They also alleged that food was not supplied as per menu though each of the inmates paid a hostel fee of Rs. 2,000 per month. They also charged the University authorities of threatening them if they complained of any problems.

College Dean Dr. Chandrashekar, who rushed to the spot, assured the inmates that their problems would be addressed and action will be taken against negligent staff, following which the stir was withdrawn.
