Mysore/Mysuru: Demanding the University of Mysore (UoM) authorities to address issues concerning scholarship and admission fees, students of the Post-Graduate section of Maharani’s College of Arts for Women, under the banner of AIDSO (All India Democratic Students Organisation), staged a protest in front of Crawford Hall here on Monday.
Pointing out that there are confusions regarding admission fee for SC/ST students who are seeking admission to Post-Graduate courses at Maharani’s Arts College for Women, the protestors alleged that they were enrolled after payment of Rs. 600 as admission fee. But now the College authorities are saying that the students have to pay Rs. 11,000 as fee for first year PG Course and Rs.19,498 for second year, which is a huge burden for them.
Noting that the Social Welfare Department has released only Rs. 2,000 scholarship for first year students and Rs. 4,000 for second year students, they argued that they cannot pay the college fees from this meagre sum.
Claiming that the second year students were not told to pay first, second and third semester fees, they alleged that now the College authorities, all of a sudden, are urging them to pay the fee.
However, the students are not asked to pay the fee through UUCMS (Unified University and College Management System) portal, which has raised doubts.
Maintaining that the payment of fee demand has come as a bolt from the blue and caused concern among the students, the protestors urged the authorities to give time for payment of fees.
Later, the students submitted a memorandum to the University Registrar V.R. Shylaja.
AIDSO Vice-President Nitin, office-bearers Swathi and Chandrakala and others were present.
