Mahisha Dasara to be celebrated on Oct. 13: Former Mayor

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mahisha Dasara Acharana Samiti has decided to celebrate Mahisha Dasara  in front of Mahishasura statue atop Chamundi Hill on Oct. 13.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Tuesday, former Mayor Purushotham said the Samiti thanks the District In-charge Minister Dr.H.C. Mahadevappa for his positive statement on Mahisha Dasara celebration. Pointing out that the Samiti has hopes that the district administration would give permission for the celebration this time, he said that a request in this regard would soon be submitted to the authorities.

Criticising the BJP for not allowing Mahisha Dasara celebration during its rule, Purushotham termed the previous BJP Government’s action as unconstitutional. Noting that the first five years of celebration went without any hurdles, he said that the celebration faced hurdles during the rule of the BJP, which did not care for Constitutional rights.

Former University of Mysore faculty Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru said that Mahisha Dasara is neither against Nada Habba Dasara nor an alternative to it. Mahisha Dasara is representative of our religious, cultural, mythological beliefs, he said  adding  that while Mahisha is History, Chamundeshwari is ‘Purana.’

Writers Prof. K.S. Bhagawan and Siddaswamy, Dalit Welfare Trust Secretary Chikkandani and Ashokapuram Shivanna were present at the press meet.
