Maintenance of Heritage Structures

Sir,

In recent times, there is a lot of hurt expressed at the rebuilding of heritage structures. Any structure has a defined lifetime, which can be extended with proper maintenance.

The basic question that arise is about the maintenance part of such structures, which calls for expenditures that can be high depending on their age.

Occasional painting of these structures is evident but no major repairs. Particularly the roofs call for attention as the plants that grow around the edges in the roofs can be highly hazardous as evidenced by roof collapses during rainy season, due to blocking of drain pipes by such plants.

Water retention on the roofs causes seepage in the buildings which aids in deteriorating of structures. While the heritage structures are boasted about, attention towards their maintenance is given the least importance makes a sad commentary.

Can the Authority concerned take note of this and take necessary actions as and when needed?
