Make sports, NCC mandatory in schools and colleges

Sir,

It is a shame that we don’t have a basic national policy of education at schools and colleges. Whatever our regional differences and preferences we must pay attention to the overall development of children.

Sports activity and NCC to inculcate social harmony and discipline must be made mandatory in all schools and colleges. There are so many PU Colleges which are run like tuition shops where even faculty with a good name indulge in syndicate tuition and even bright students fall a prey to it. This must be severely discouraged by the   education authorities.

Another important problem to be tackled is the demand of school and college authorities to pay the tuition and admission fee (which varies from 20,000 to 50,000) at one instalment. This will be a great burden to the low-income parents. A concession may be shown at least by accepting fee in two or three instalments.

I hope some attention will be paid to this problem immediately by the new government in Karnataka.
