Nanjangud: Sri Channabasava Swamiji (83), pontiff of Mallanamoole Sri Guru Kambaleeshwara Mutt in the taluk, passed away at a private hospital in Mysuru last night.
The mortal remains was kept in the Mutt premises for the devotees and dignitaries to pay their last respects.
A procession was taken out at Basavanapura village at 2 pm and the last rites related rituals commenced at 4 pm.
Sri Channabasava Swamiji had established a school and hostel where thousands of students were given education along with food, sources in the Mutt said.
Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Social Welfare and District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, Nanjangud MLA Darshan Dhruvanarayan and other dignitaries visited the Mutt and paid their last respects.
