Man arrested for murdering wife

Hunsur: Hunsur Town Police have arrested a man on charges of murdering his wife at his house in Kalkunike Housing Board Colony in the town by strangulating her.

While the accused has been identified as Ravi, the victim is his wife Sowmya (30), a Anganwadi worker.

Details: Sowmya, daughter of Shivanna, a resident of Sathanur in Mandya, was given in marriage to Ravi of Kalkunike in Hunsur 11 years ago and the couple have two sons, aged nine and seven years.

Ravi, who had suspected his wife of having an affair, had expressed his doubts and there were frequent quarrels between the couple over the issue. Though the issue ended in a compromise, the matter also ended up in the Police Station where it was settled.

But on Saturday night when Sowmya was sleeping, Ravi allegedly strangulated her by pressing her neck with his leg and again strangled her with a veil to make sure she was dead and had fled from the spot. Hunsur Town Police, who rushed to the spot on Sunday morning, conducted mahazar and shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary in Mysuru for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Sowmya’s brother Mahesh, expressing doubts about Sowmya’s death, lodged a complaint against Ravi at Hunsur Town Police Station. The Police, who registered a case, arrested Ravi at about 2 pm yesterday.

During interrogation, accused Ravi is said to have confessed of murdering Sowmya.
