Man arrested for robbing women in the guise of offering drop

Mandya: The Mandya Rural Police have arrested a man on charges of robbing lonely women after promising to drop them to their destination in his vehicle. The arrested has been identified as Vishwanath, 39 of Hittalapura village in Kunigal taluk of Tumkur district. The Police have recovered jewellery worth Rs. 2 lakh, 8 cell phones and a Tata Ace Goods vehicle.

Modus operandi

Vishwanath, who owned a Tata Ace vehicle, used to park it near Gejjalagere Industrial area bus stop in Maddur taluk. As women working in the industrial area came out after the day’s work, he used to introduce himself to lonely women who waited for transport.

Once the women got into his vehicle, he used to park his vehicle in front of roadside shops and offered them coffee or juice after clandestinely putting sedative substances. Later, after the women slipped into dizziness, Vishwanath used to rob them of their belongings leaving them at the spot.

Following complaints from several women in this regard, the Mandya Police, who swung into action, arrested Vishwanath when he was standing beside his vehicle near Srinivasapura gate in the outskirts of Mandya on the morning of Aug.31. The Police have recovered jewellery totally worth Rs. 2 lakh from him, according to Mandya SP G. Radhika.

Mandya Rural CPI B.K. Suresh Kumar, PSI Azharuddin and other staff arrested the accused under the guidance of ASP Lavanya and Dy.SP Chandrashekar.
