Mysore/Mysuru: A man committed suicide after allegedly assaulting his wife with a machete at Kesare in N.R. Mohalla yesterday night.
The deceased is Thammanna (55), a mason by profession. His wife Gowramma, who has sustained serious injuries on her neck, has been admitted to a private hospital, where she is said to be critical.
Yesterday at about 8.30 pm, Thammanna, who was said to be drunk, picked up a quarrel and in a fit of rage struck Gowramma on her neck with a machete. Gowramma, fell down unconscious and Thammanna, who was shocked to see his wife in a pool of blood, reportedly committed suicide by hanging self in the room out of fear.
Meanwhile, residents of neighbouring houses who grew suspicious as no sound or voice was coming from Gowramma’s house, went to the house only to see her lying in a pool of blood and Thammanna hanging. They immediately informed N.R. Police and rushed Gowramma to a nearby private hospital, where she is said to be critical.
N.R. Inspector Azaruddin and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, shifted the body of Thammanna to MMC&RI mortuary for post-mortem besides registering a case. The body of Thammanna was handed over to his family members after post-mortem was conducted.
It is learnt that the couple’s son and daughter-in-law had gone outside, when the incident took place.
