Man gets life term for killing wife

Mysuru: City’s  Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and has also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 for killing his wife.

The man who has been sentenced is Mahadeva, a resident of Basaveshwara Colony, Bettadapura in Periyapatna taluk.

Mahadeva was mentally and physically harassing his wife Bhagya as she was unable to bear him a child and he was preparing for another marriage.

On Jan. 4, 2016, Mahadeva forcibly made Bhagya drink poison-laced liquor and when she was sleeping, he killed her with a machete. He later carried her body on his shoulders and placed it behind the house and had kept the liquor and poison bottles near the body in order to conceal his act. Bettadapura Police, who had registered a case, conducted investigation and had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court.

Judge G.G. Kuruvatti, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found the accused guilty of committing the crime and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Public Prosecutor Nagappa C. Nakman argued on behalf of the Government.
