Mysuru: The Second Additional Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife. The convicted person has been identified as Srinivas, a native of Mantikyathanahalli in Mysuru taluk. He was married to Vishalakshi, a native of Marakaradoddi in Maddur taluk.
The couple had a son and a daughter. Srinivas, who was addicted to alcohol, used to assault his wife, suspecting her fidelity. He would also harass her to bring dowry from her parent’s place. Relatives had intervened to pacify him on several occasions.
Meanwhile, Srinivas started complaining that it is not possible to take care of his children and used to pester Vishalakshi to admit the children to an orphanage. On Jan. 22, 2012, he forced Vishalakshi to consume alcohol and had strangulated her with her veil on a farmland at Halladamanuganahalli in Mysuru taluk. Srinivas had gone absconding for over a year after the incident. While the daughter has been housed in an orphanage, the son is studying in a school from a hostel.
Judge Vijaykumar M. Anand Shetty has directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide suitable compensation to the children. Public Prosecutor H.D. Anand Kumar had argued for the State.
